    Wedding guest dresses with sleeves

A wedding invitation is an invitation to celebrate, and your dress should feel just as special as the occasion. Baruni's wedding guest collection has been designed and made in our own Dubai atelier since 2009, for women who want sophisticated style with a sense of ease. Almost every piece is sleeved, because that is what our customers ask for. Most occasionwear is designed strapless first and sleeved afterwards, which is why an added sleeve pulls at the shoulder and creases at the elbow. Ours are cut as part of the dress.

You will find elbow length puff sleeves, three quarter sleeves, long sleeves that finish just above the wrist, dropped shoulders and sculptural sleeves that stand away from the arm. Prices start at $350.

    Modest, considered dressing

Modesty at Baruni is not an afterthought. It is the whole design philosophy. Fadwa believes a woman's personality should lead, not her skin, and wedding dressing is where that principle matters most. Dressing for a wedding comes with its own quiet etiquette. White and ivory are reserved for the bride, and coverage expectations vary by country and by event. Our signature shirt gowns are often the answer, structured enough to feel intentional and easy enough to wear all day, buttoned higher for the ceremony and opened slightly for the reception, so one dress carries you through without a second outfit. The Farrah Gown and the Elham Gown are the two our customers return to most.

    Choosing by season

Spring weddings suit fresh colours and lighter fabrics. Chiffon, georgette and organza move beautifully and breathe, which makes them right for garden ceremonies and outdoor receptions. Summer calls for the same lightness, with flowing maxi dresses, midi lengths and A line silhouettes. As the seasons turn, autumn and winter weddings call for deeper tones and more structure, and our tailored jacquards and refined satins, developed with our own fabric mills, give a polished finish for indoor and evening celebrations. For a formal wedding, a maxi creates the right presence. For a semi formal one, a midi is enough.

    Destination weddings and warm weather

If the wedding is somewhere hot, choose by fabric weight rather than by sleeve length. A full sleeve in light organza or taffeta moves more air than a fitted sleeve in a dense fabric. Pick a hem at the ankle rather than the floor, because a floor length hem meets grass, gravel and sand. And choose a fabric that recovers from being folded into a case and can be restyled with different shoes across more than one event. Our kaftans give complete coverage with no structure against the body at all, which is why they travel so well.

Mother of the bride and mother of the groom

This role carries a particular kind of pressure: elegant enough to mark the occasion, never competing with it. You will be in the dress from early morning until late, you will be photographed more than any other guest, and you will be hugging a hundred people, so avoid anything that needs a strapless bra or constant adjusting. Our mother of the bride dresses are sleeved, long and cut in structured fabrics for exactly that reason.

    Styling one dress two ways

A change from a sandal to a heel, or the addition of one strong earring, takes the same dress from a daytime ceremony to an evening reception. That is the whole idea behind the shirt gown: one dress, two ways, no costume change in between. The best wedding guest dress is the one that respects the occasion and still feels like you.

    Before your dress ships

We write to you before your order leaves the atelier to check the size you have chosen is the right one. If you are unsure, reply with your measurements and we will confirm before it goes. If you are between sizes, we recommend the larger, and that is especially true of a sleeved dress, because arm width varies far more between women than waist measurement does.

For a fuller explanation of which sleeve suits which arm, read our designer's guide to sleeves and coverage. For a black tie evening rather than a wedding, see evening elegance.

    Frequently Asked Questions

A midi or maxi dress in a fabric with some structure, in any colour other than white, ivory, cream or champagne. Before four in the afternoon a midi is correct almost everywhere. After six, floor length is welcome and a midi is still entirely acceptable. If the invitation names a dress code, that overrides everything else.

A flowing midi or maxi dress in chiffon or georgette works beautifully for an outdoor setting. Elegant prints and fresh colours complement the relaxed atmosphere while keeping a polished appearance.

Because that is what our customers ask for. Most occasionwear is designed strapless first and sleeved afterwards, which is why an added sleeve pulls at the shoulder and creases at the elbow. Ours are cut as part of the dress from the beginning, in our own Dubai atelier, so the sleeve moves with you and holds its shape all day.

Consider a refined maxi or an elevated midi in a luxurious fabric such as jacquard or satin, paired with elegant jewellery and evening accessories to complete the look.

Black tie calls for your most formal option, a floor-length gown in a structured fabric like jacquard or satin holds its shape through a full evening of standing, dancing, and being seen.

Yes. Modesty is a deliberate design choice at Baruni, not a limitation. Our dresses are designed to let a woman's personality lead, with coverage that still feels striking rather than flashy, well suited to weddings where etiquette and coverage expectations matter.

Consider the destination's climate, venue, and dress code. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are particularly practical for warm locations, while fluid silhouettes provide both comfort and elegance.

A sleeved dress at ankle or floor length, in a structured fabric, in a colour the bridal party is not using. You will be in it from early morning until late, you will be photographed more than any other guest, and you will be hugging a hundred people, so avoid anything that needs a strapless bra or constant adjusting.

Semi-formal weddings allow more flexibility. A polished midi dress, elegant maxi, or sophisticated printed style all work well, particularly paired with understated accessories and appropriate footwear.

Take the larger. This is true of every dress we make and especially a sleeved one, because arm width varies far more between women than waist measurement does. A sleeve that is slightly generous drapes. A sleeve that is slightly tight shows every movement. A hem is easy for a local tailor to shorten. A narrow sleeve is not easy to let out.

Usually yes, and quickly. We dispatch within 24 hours. Delivery is 1 to 2 days within the UAE and 3 to 5 days to the United Kingdom, the United States and most of Europe. You are sent a tracking number the moment it leaves us. If your wedding is less than a week away, write to info@baruni.co before you order and we will tell you honestly whether it will make it.

We try to stop that happening before it ships. Before your dress leaves the atelier we write to check the size you have chosen is right, and if you are unsure you can reply with your measurements and we will confirm. If it still is not right, you have 15 days from receiving it to send it back, unworn and unaltered with its tags and packaging. Full price pieces are refunded to your original card. Outlet pieces are returned for store credit, valid for a year.

Usually only the hem, and only for height. Our dresses are cut to fall at the ankle or the floor on a woman of average height in a heel, so if you are petite or you plan to wear a flat shoe, allow for a hem. Any local tailor can do it in a few days. We would rather tell you now than have you discover it the week of the wedding.

Start with sleeve shape rather than colour. A puff or gathered sleeve covers completely while standing away from the arm, which suits every shape. A three quarter sleeve covers the upper arm and leaves the wrist free. A sheer sleeve veils rather than covers, so if you want true coverage choose a sleeve cut in the same fabric as the dress. The Farrah Gown, the Elham Gown and the Mira Dress are our three most covered styles.

Yes, and most of our customers do. What makes a dress recognisable is a loud print or a very distinctive embellishment, not the shape. A dress in a woven jacquard or a plain structured fabric reads differently with different shoes, a different belt and different jewellery. The only real question is whether the same guests will be at both.

Elbow length puff sleeves, three quarter sleeves, long sleeves that finish just above the wrist, dropped shoulders, and sculptural sleeves that stand away from the arm. Each piece lists its sleeve on the product page. If you are between sizes we recommend the larger, because arm width varies far more between women than waist measurement does.

Jacquards and satins developed with our own fabric mills, taffeta, and lighter chiffon, georgette and organza for warm weather. Fabric weight matters more than sleeve length for comfort in heat. A full sleeve in light organza moves more air than a fitted sleeve in a dense fabric.

Better not. White, ivory, cream and champagne are reserved for the bride, unless the couple has asked their guests to wear them. Everything else is open to you. The colours that photograph best against a wedding venue are the ones most guests overlook: deep teal, dusty rose, sage, bronze, plum and navy.

It is our signature piece, and it solves more problems than any other shape we make. You put it on exactly as you would a shirt, one arm at a time, then button it. Nothing goes over your head, so your hair and your make up stay exactly as you left them. It carries a quiet authority that a soft dress does not, which is why so many of our customers choose it for the occasions where they want to feel in command of the room. And you decide how much of yourself it shows, buttoned to the throat for the ceremony and opened as low as you choose for the reception, so one dress carries you through the whole day without a second outfit. The Farrah Gown and the Elham Gown are the two our customers return to most.

Prices start at $350. Every piece is designed by Baruni and made by our own skilled tailors, and we write to you before your order ships to confirm the size you have chosen is the right one.
