Almas Kaftan: Studded Neckline Taffeta Gown with Organza Frills

The Almas Kaftan is cut from taffeta, a fabric with body and a quiet sheen, and finished at floor length. Down each side runs a sheer organza frill, the full length of the garment, so the shape moves long before you do. The neckline is round and set with diamond effect studs. A wide belt is built into the waist and ties at the front, drawing the taffeta in and letting the frills fall away from it. Lined in rayon.

This is a piece for the evenings that matter. A wedding, an engagement, a gala, the long evenings of Eid and Ramadan. It comes in white, beige and black, and it sits alongside the rest of the Kaftans and the Evening Elegance collection.

The model in black is 175 cm and wears a size S. The models in white and beige are 172 cm and also wear a size S. At that size the kaftan measures 94 cm at the bust, 75 at the waist, 105 at the hips and 153 cm from the shoulder to the hem. The waist is drawn by the belt rather than cut, so the size is decided at the bust. If you are between sizes, we recommend the larger.

How much of the arm do the organza frills cover?

About 30 cm. The frill is attached down the full length of each side and falls over the upper arm, so the shoulder and the top of the arm sit under organza rather than in the open. At a size S the frill measures 33 cm.

Is the Almas Kaftan see through?

The body is taffeta lined in rayon, so it is solid from the shoulder to the hem. The organza frills are sheer, which is the point of them. They read as movement and light against the taffeta rather than as a second layer of fabric.

Can I adjust the waist?

Yes. The belt is built into the garment and ties at the front, so you set the waist yourself. Draw it in for a defined shape or leave it easy and let the taffeta fall straight. It is the reason this piece works across more than one shape.

What are the studs at the neckline?

Diamond effect studs, set around the round neckline in a single line. They catch the light at the face, which is where you want it in a photograph, and they are the only decoration on the piece. Everything else is done by the cut and the organza.

How long is it, and will it touch the floor?

It is a floor length piece. At a size S it measures 153 cm from the shoulder to the hem, and both models, at 172 cm and 175 cm, wear it with a heel. If you are shorter than that, expect it to sit on the floor without one. Tell us your height when you order and we will say how it will fall on you.

Which size should I order if I am between two sizes?

Take the larger. The belt gives you the waist back, so the only measurement that has to be right is the bust. We write to you before your order ships to confirm the size, so send us your bust, waist and hip measurements and we will check them against the chart for you.
