A sleeveless shirt gown cut from Lurex jacquard, woven exclusively for Baruni. It is fitted through the shoulder, the waist and the hip, then releases into a dramatic gathered flare that sweeps out to the floor. The Lurex gives the weave a metallic effect that moves with the light, so the shape reads cleanly in daylight and becomes far more dramatic under evening lighting.
A tailored jacket collar sits at the neckline, and the front fastens with handmade buttons made for this gown. There is no belt, because the cut does the shaping on its own. Lined throughout in soft rayon.
Available in Black and Mulberry. The model is 172 cm and wears a size S.
What are the buttons, and are they really handmade?
They are, and they are the reason this gown costs what it does. Each one is made by hand rather than bought in, which is why no two are ever quite identical if you look closely. They run down the front of the gown in a straight line from the collar, so they are the first thing anyone sees, and they are the detail that tells you the gown was made rather than manufactured.
Will I be able to walk upstairs and sit down in it?
Yes, and this is the question worth answering honestly before you buy. The gown is close through the hip and thigh, so your stride is shorter than it would be in a full skirt. Stairs are comfortable because the flare begins above the knee and gives you the room. Sitting is easy. What this gown does not want is a long walk across gravel or grass, so if the evening involves a garden, plan to be carried there by car.
It is sleeveless, so what do I wear over it?
The Asabi Cape is the piece we would put with it. It sits over the shoulder without adding bulk at the hip, which matters on a gown shaped like this one, and it leaves the collar and the line of buttons visible rather than covering the part you are paying for.
Can the length be altered?
The hem can be taken up by a good tailor, but it is work, because the gathering at the lower part of the gown is what creates the flare and it has to be reset rather than simply folded. If you are between heights, it is usually easier to choose your shoe to suit the gown than to alter the gown to suit the shoe. The length is published on the size chart so you can measure before you decide.
How does the lining feel over a long evening?
Soft. The gown is lined edge to edge in rayon, which sits smoothly against the skin and does not cling the way a polyester lining can once a room warms up. Jacquard has body to it, so the gown holds its shape through the evening rather than dropping, and the lining is what keeps that structure from being felt.
If you would like the same fabric in a fuller, easier shape, the Alaba Gown is cut from the same Lurex jacquard with a pleated waist and a full skirt. Both sit in our evening gowns.

Delivery
Baruni use international couriers to deliver your orders. This typically takes 1 to 2 days from order in the UAE, and 3 to 5 days for other countries. We usually dispatch within 24 hours.
If you leave your email address at checkout, we will send you a tracking number as soon as your order leaves us, so you can follow its progress.
We also write to you before we ship, to check the size you have chosen is the right one for you. If you think it may not be, reply to that email with your measurements and we will confirm before your dress leaves the atelier.

Returns
You have 15 days from receiving your order to send a piece back to us. It must be unworn and unaltered, with its tags, labels and packaging.
Write to info@baruni.co with your order number and we will send you the return address. Return shipping is arranged and paid by you, and our original delivery cost is deducted from the refund.
Full price pieces are refunded to your original payment method.
Outlet pieces are not refunded. They are returned for store credit, valid for one year on anything on the site.
If we alter a piece at your request, or adjust it to your measurements before it is sent, it cannot be returned or exchanged. We will always tell you what we propose to change and we never alter anything without your confirmation first.
If a size is not right, message us before you send it back. We can often tell you which size to take instead.
